STATINS

November 13, 2016-The U.S. Preventive Services Task Force released today a final recom-mendation statement on statin use for the primary prevention of cardiovascular disease in adults. The Task Force found that statin use is beneficial for some people ages 40 to 75 years who are at increased risk for cardiovascular disease, but did not find enough evidence to recommend for or against statin use for people older than age 75 years.

To view the recommendation and the evidence on which it is based, please go to the USPSTF Update Summary page. The final recommendation statement can also be found in the November 13, 2016, online issue of JAMA.

THYROID CANCER SCREENINGS

November 22, 2016-The U.S. Preventive Services Task Force seeks comments on a draft rec-ommendation statement and draft evidence review on screening for thyroid cancer. The Task Force found that clinicians should not screen the general adult population for asymptomatic thyroid cancer. This is a D recommendation. The draft recommendation statement and draft evidence review are available for review and public comment from November 22 to December 26 at the USPSTF Comment page.

BEHAVIORAL COUNSELING FOR A HEALTHY DIET AND PHYSICAL ACTIVITY
November 29, 2016-The U.S. Preventive Services Task Force seeks comments on a draft rec-ommendation statement and draft evidence review on behavioral counseling to promote a healthful diet and physical activity for cardiovascular disease prevention in adults without cardiovascular risk factors. Evidence shows that counseling can help prevent cardiovascular disease in some people who are at low or average risk, but the benefits are limited.
The draft recommendation statement and draft evidence review are available for review and public comment from November 29 to January 2 at the USPSTF Comment page.
